(VY 03) Nature Interpretation in the Community of Los Volcanes. | |
Complete description:
Experience nature and share life with people living on the edge of
Amboró
National Park. Hospitable locals share their beliefs and their knowledge of the forest on guided tours. Sit at their tables and try their medicinal and aromatic herbs.
Day 1: Leave Samaipata by motor vehicle with trilingual biologist (or alone if departing from
Santa Cruz ). After one tour arrive in
Bermejo , where the hike begins. That is also where local guide will expect you. If you arr ive from
Santa Cruz , a trilingual guide, specializing in nature and bird life, will also be expecting you. The biologist will guide you to the community of Los Volcanes, taking you past laguna Volcanes (road conditions permitted, the lake may be reached by motor vehicle). You will get to know the ecology of birds and aquatic life in majestic surroundings. Simultaneously, the local guide will lead donkeys with our equipment alongside the
Colorado River to the community of Los Volcanes where we will join up with him and have lunch. On our descent to the community we will pass grassy mountain slopes and remnants of forests, appreciating different natural strategies of adaptation to the different environmental situations. Alter lunch prepared by local cooks (do try the fruits and local herb teas) we ascend to the observation point Loma de Borda, leaving our heavy equipment behind. Up here you can observe and enjoy the landscape.

With the help of the biologist you will learn to understand technical aspects of the area’s nature. Also, the local guide will tell you stories and anecdotes about this region till nightfall. After the evening meal in the mosquito free dining area you can follow the local guide along footpaths in search of night birds and mammals.
Day 2: Before breakfast, the biologist invites the enthusiastic to listen to the birds’ morning concert. The birds are particularly active in this time of the day, so this is an excellent oppertunity to appreciate the best singers of the forest. After breakfast we leave for Quebrada Torrecillas. Bring sandals, because we will repeatedly ford the river. In this area of integrated forest management we will experience the use of local plants, whether medicinal, aromatic, for dying or building purposes, etc. We will also visit the house of a local with its palm straw roof. He like others uses a variety of utensils and tools skillfully made of local materials. We will also visit primeval forests and mysterious ravines. We will have lunch around 2:00 pm, and wearing our sandals will then wade along the Colorado River for about two hours until we reach
Bermejo . Again donkeys will carry our heavy equipment. An hour later we return to Samaipata or
Santa Cruz , feel free to choose.
