(EX 05) Long Day Trekking to the Incan Mesa Archeological Site and relaxation at the Cuevas Waterfalls.

Feedback from guests

Complete description:

An adventure for those who are like to wander far from the beaten path. From El Fuerte, Cuevas, Amboró peaks, or on a flight from Santa Cruz to Sucre , a rugged mountain range stands out between the Cuevas, La Coca, Lagunillas, and Los Frailes rivers. Up where the condors soar, the Incan Mesa dominates its surroundings. From the foot of the Mesa extends a vast landscape of green hills and lush valleys, where various pre-Colombian cultures once lived. Among them were the Incans, who traveled here expanding their Andean empire to include this region. Then there were the Chané, amazonian farmers who came up to these valleys from the north. Guaraní migrants from also came here, absorbing the Chané culturally, and fighting the Incans for dominion over the area. Eventually, their descendants became known as the Chiriguana. As the artifacts in Samaipata´s museum show, this region is rich in Archaeological sites, many of which can be seen from the Inca Plateau, i.e. El Fuerte, Cerro Las Rueditas, Parabanocito, El Filo, Masicurí, Cerro de los Cántaros, Postrervalle, etc.

This tour is only for those with strong ankles and hearts, who will truly be able to enjoy the 7-hour demanding hike. Although this is a tough hike, which includes dizzying heights, it rewards the adventurous with a fantastic journey, full of sweeping vistas and undiscovered corners where your guide will show you the ecology of the ravines, cliffs and meadows. The trip up to the Mesa offers an amazing but strenuous experience; some prefer to wait behind while others head up the Condor´s Path to the best lookout in Samaipata -Take a picture for me, per favor! Sometimes time runs out before enjoying the 3 waterfalls at Cuevas, which are ideally programmed for some well-deserved after-trek relaxation.
