(BW 53) Intense Birding in 4WD to Interandean Valleys. From Samaipata to Mataral and Saipina.

In 4x4 from Samaipata to the Interandean Valley of Mataral and Saipina. Before dawn, we leave Samaipata and have breakfast in thh semi-arid region of Mataral, where during the morning, we will see birds such as the Tataupá común Crypturellus tataupa, the common turkey Penelope obscura, the mixed Gavilán Parabuteo unicinctus, the common Calacante Aratinga acuticaudata, the white bellied hummingbird Amazilia chionogaster, the Colibrí mediano Colibri serrirostris, the Durmilí Nystalus maculatus, the cardón woodpecker Melanerpes cactorum, the tiny Chinchero Lepidocolaptes angustirostris, the white Curutié Cranioleuca pyrrhophia, the smotth featherd Choca Thamnophilus doliatus and the brown backed Choca Th. palliatus, Calandrita Stigmatura budytoides, the white bellied Piojito Serpophaga munda, Tthe grey Tuquito Griseotyrannus aurantioatrocristatus, the brown Burlisto Casiornis rufa, the Cortarramas Phytotoma rutila, the Juan chiviro Cyclarhis gujanensis, the blue Tacuarita Polioptila dumicola, the Mielero Coereba flaveola, the Naranjero Thraupis bonariensis, the common Euphonia chlorotica, the Pitiayumí Parula pitiayumi, the black headed and black necked Monteritas Poospiza melanoleuca and Po. torquata, the tufted necked Arremon flavirostris, the fire coloured Brasita Coryphospingus cucullata, the grey Soldadito Lophospingus griseocristatus, the Pepitero de collar Saltator aurantiirostris, the mora grande Queen Cyanocompsa brisonii, the king of the forest Pheucticus aureoventris, the musical and dark coloured Tordos Agelaioides badius and Molothrus bonariensis. We will enjoy lunch in Saipina in a restaurante in order to be able to continue on to an isolated watered oasis, which is situated in the shade of multicoloured cliffswhich rise above us. Here in these surroundings of these unique cliffs and mountains, it is possible to spot four native species of birds : the red fronted Guacamayo Ara rubrogenys, the cliff dwelling Parrott Myiopsitta luchsi, the Bolivian Tordo Oreopsar bolivianus, the Bolivian Bandurrita Upucerthia harterti and the Catita chirirí Brotogeris chiriri, the common Viudita Knipolegus aterrimus, the common Birro Hirundinea ferruginea, etc. As dusk approaches and we make our way back to Samaipata, we will still have a chance to spot , the Bandurria boreal Theristicus caudatus, the royal Jote real Sarcoramphus papa, the small bottomed Aguilucho Buteo brachyurus, the common Yerutí Leptotila verreauxi, the common and coloured Torcacitas Columbina picui and Co. talpacoti, the red faced Calacante Aratinga mitrata, the earth colour headed Chiripepé Pyrrhura molinae, the chattering parrott Amazona aestiva, the common and darker Urracas Cyanocorax chrysops and Cy. Cyanomelas, the Tingazú Piaya cayana, the brown backed woodpecker Campephilus leucopogon, the coloured Zorzal Turdus rufiventris, amongst others.


Specialties: endemics Red-fronted Macaw, Cliff Parakeet, Bolivian Earthcreeper and Bolivian Blackbird. Also Yellow-chewroned Parakeet, Blue-fronted Parrot, White-bellied Hummigbird, White-vented Violet-ear, Spot-backed Puffbird, White-fronted Woodpecker, Narrow-billed Woodcreeper, Stripe-crowned Spinetail, Greater Wagtail, Black-winged Black-Tyrant, Rufous Casiornis, White-tipped Plantcutter, Black-capped & Ringed Warbling-finches, Gray-crested Finch, among others. Picnic breakfast and lunch.

NOTES:  We accept payment in Bs, Є and US$ as well as Travellers Cheques & Credit Cards (ask). Please note in Samaipata you can only change US$/Bs in the Exchange Bureau. Also available an ATM facility from Mon to Fri, please bring national currency for extras.
