(BW 52) Intense Birding in 4WD to Cloudforest of Amboró NP. |  |
Complete description:At sunrise, but before heading up to the Fern Forest, we will trace a route through the Interandean Valley, whit good sites to spot birds amongst the thorny bush land such as: Blue-crowned Parakeet, White-bellied Hummingbird, Spot-backed Puffbird, Cream-backed Woodpecker, White-fronted Woodpecker, Narrow-billed Woodcreeper, endemic Bolivian Earthcreeper, Stripe-crowned Spinetail, Barred Antshrike, White-bellied Tyrannulet, Greater Wagtail-Tyrant, Crowned Slaty-Flycatcher, White-tipped Plantcutter, Purple-throated Euphonia, Black-capped and Ringed Warbling-Finches, Red-crested Finch. After breakfast we will climb upwards into the cloud forest hoping to hear birds such as: Hooded Tinamou, Brown Tinamou, Andean guan, Large-tailed Dove, Crested Quetzal, Blue-banded Toucanet, White-throated Antpitta, Bolivian Tapaculo, White-eared Solitaire, Slaty and Glossy-black Trushes, etc.
Through the day we’ll be also able to see: Blue-capped Puffleg, Slender-tailed Woodstar, Black-winged and Red-billed Parrots, Mitred Parakeet, Crimson-mantled, Red-necked and Smoky-brown Woodpeckers, Strong-billed and Montane Woodcreepers, Pearled Treerunner, Azara’s Spinetail, Slaty Gnateater, Tawny-rumped, Buff-banded, White-throated and Sclater’s Tyrannulets, Chestnut-crested Cotinga, Yungas Manakin, Pale-legged and Three-striped Warblers, Blue-winged Mountain-Tanager, Saffron-crowned and Green-throated Tanagers, Capped Conebill, Masked Flowerpiercer, Rufous-napped Brush-Finch, etc.
We continue birding this habitat almost all day long, stopping for a picnic in a quiet place in the forest. Or we could have lunch in the hotel followed by a siesta. In both cases we end birding during the evening a dry interandean valley, spotting birds like: Buff-necked Ibis, White-tipped Dove, Picui and Ruddy Ground-Doves, Blue-fronted Parrot, Saffron-billed Sparrow, Ultramarine Grosbeak, Golden-billed Saltator and Black-backed Grosbeak, Purplish and Plush-crested Jays, Bay-winged and Shiny Cowbirds.
